Boys and girls. They can afford to be themselves and, in turn, they should be allowed to play everything. They consider everything susceptible to gambling, including violence, disease and death. As a child I have played war, I am aware that other children have performed funerals and burials in their games, and all of us have ever played nurses and doctors. Now as an adult woman, I think I retain something of that spirit, the ability to continue exploring life through representation or simulation. I have often made as an artist objects and images in which encounter, the coexistence of worlds apparently far apart is forced or slid, depending on how you look at it. Kind of rhetorical figure called oxymoron. The piece that I present, obviously links illness and play. Or, more exactly, quarantine and gambling. The deck, that in itself proposes evasion, in this case includes its opposite, that from which perhaps it was intended to escape by playing. — Nerea Lekuona

Jungen und Mädchen. Sie können es sich leisten sich selbst zu sein und andererseits alles ausprobieren zu dürfen. Sie finden Glücksspiele, wie Gewalt, Krankheit und Tod vielleicht interessant. Als Kind habe ich Krieg gespielt und andere Kinder haben Beerdingungen oder Bestattungen nachgeahmt auch haben wir alle schon mal Krankenschwester oder Arzt gespielt. Jetz als erwachsene Frau denke ich, dass ich etwas von diesem Geist noch in mir trage, die Fähigkeit, das Leben durch Repräsentation und Simulation weiterhin zu erforschen. Ich habe als Künstlerin oft Objekte und Bilder kreirt, in denen die Begegnung, das Zusammenleben von Welten, die scheinbar weit voneinander entfernt sind, erzwungen oder verschoben wurden, je nachdem, wie man es betrachtete. Wie diese rhetorische Figur namens Oxymoron. Die Arbeit die ich präsentiere, verbindet offensichtlich Krankheit und Spiel. Oder genauer gesagt, Quarantäne und Glücksspiel. Das Kartenspiel, dass einem eher Winkelzüge vormacht, enthält in diesem Fall das Gegenteil, diesem “etwas”, dass es vielleicht durch Spielen entkommen wollte. — Nerea Lekuona
